"Licornes !"
from Tuesday, March 10, 2026 to Sunday, July 12, 2026
Musée de Cluny – Musée National du Moyen Âge, Paris.
A mythical creature, the unicorn has long been considered real. An inaccessible, untameable, and extraordinary animal, it has inspired artists since ancient times. Marco Polo himself claimed to have encountered one during his travels in Asia. Although modern times have come to accept its legendary nature, the unicorn remains present in the imagination of young and old alike and has left a deep mark on the history of art. Musée de Cluny – Musée National du Moyen Âge, home to the famous Dame à la Licorne tapestries, is the ideal place to discover them.
Comprising 10 thematic sections, the exhibition explores the theme of the unicorn through a retrospective of more than a hundred works ranging from antiquity to contemporary art, including photographs by Marie Cecile Thijs. The exhibition “Licornes!” is organized by the Musée de Cluny – Musée National du Moyen Âge and the GrandPalaisRmn, in collaboration with the Museum Barberini in Potsdam. It benefits from loans from prestigious international museums such as the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, the Prado National Museum in Madrid, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, and the Louvre Museum. -
