Le Molière, 40 rue de Richelieu — Paris

For this new edition of a ppr oc he, Galerie XII presents the latest body of work by Sabatina Leccia, Chercher le soleil — a sensory exploration through photography, textiles, drawing, and video, centered on childhood memories, oscillating between dazzlement and wonder. Part of the project was developed during her Excellence des Métiers d’Arts residency, in partnership with the Musée Nicéphore Niépce in Chalon-sur-Saône and the Émiland Gauthey High School. From November 13 to 16

Chercher le Soleil (Seeking the Sun) is a hybrid artistic endeavor—combining textiles, drawing, photography, and video—that explores the light of origins, the light that animates us and opens our eyes to the essence of existence. Sabatina Leccia attempts to capture this primal light in images, like a “gaze that comes from the depths of being.” It is also a quest for her own origins, a return to Corsica. Coming from the diaspora, she was not born there, but it shaped her identity. The island has always been for her a real and inner territory, built between lived memories and family stories, a place that is both distant and intimate, similar to the ebb and flow of the waves.

Her first pieces, embroidered stitch by stitch, were like internal maps for her. By combining them with photography, she attempts to materialize this territory of memory and let herself be guided by her sensory perceptions: colors, light, flashes of sea and sun. Her images reveal real landscapes tinged with feelings, oscillating between representation and luminous abstraction.

Through photography, handcrafted interventions, and textiles, Sabtina Leccia seeks to create caressing images, where light becomes a sensitive material. Chercher le Soleil is a quest for gentleness, for vital light, an invitation to contemplation and poetic refuge.
